Digital Studio 1 @ Colgate University investigates artistic approaches to digital art technologies with an emphasis on how the history of new media art informs digital art practices. Student’s engage in studio assignments involving art for the internet including, sound art, digital imaging, animation, and basic interactivity via Javascript and Processing. We will consider questions such as: What is new media art, technological art, and digital culture? What are the differences between new media and digital media? We will employ the computer, and the internet as medium for artistic exploration and as a space for creative inquiry and cultural production. We will investigate how artists use digital art, net art, and internet art for works dealing with conceptualism, formalism, community, identity, hacktivism, performance, and hypertext narratives.
